Ms. Maurer uses rights and responsibilities in her classroom. These guide students to behave appropriately as scholars.
The focus of my class is respect: respect for self and respect for others are key.
In my class students have rights and are expected to meet and uphold others rights.
Students Rights
I have a right to ask questions and make comments without fear of ridicule
This means that students are expected to respect others rights by not making fun of others or name-calling.
I have a right to ask for help
This means that students are expected to ask for help when needed.
I have a right to learn/teach in a quiet, worry-free environment.
This means that students are expected to only talk at appropriate times, stay in my seat and not interfere in others right to work or learn.
I have a right to know what is expected of me before I complete an assignment
This means that students are expected to listen to and follow all directions the first time and ask for clarification if needed.
I have a right to take care of needs to complete my assignments.
This means that students are expected to be responsible in their actions. This also means that all students are expected to come to class prepared.
I have a right to be respected.
This means that students must respect and treat all people and their belongings the way they want their things and self to be treated. I.e.
Students will keep their hands, feet and objects to themselves.
I have a right to earn good grades and improve.
This means that students are expected to complete and turn in assignments within the time frame given.
Students who choose to deny the right to someone else will receive the following consequence/s:
Step 1 Warning
Step 2 Time-out in another classroom
Step 3 Phone call home
Step 4 Office Referral
